Johnny Winter ... Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signing to Columbia records in 1969, called the largest solo artist deal of its time.
Johnny immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues, a prime combination for the legions of fans just discovering the blues via the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton.
Constantly shifting between simple country blues in the vein of Robert Johnson, to all-out electric slide guitar blues-rock, – Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues-rock and American Southern rock (a la the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd.)
Throughout the ’70s and ’80s, Johnny was the unofficial torch-bearer for the blues, championing and aiding the careers of his idols like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.
Johnny Winter is an American blues guitarist, singer, and producer best known for his late 1960s and 1970s high-energy blues-rock albums and live performances.
Johnny Winter also produced three Grammy Award-winning albums for blues legend Muddy Waters.
The partnership not only produced three Grammy Awards for Waters but an additional Grammy for Winter's own “Nothin' But the Blues” (Johnny Winter album), with backing by members of Waters' band.
Muddy Waters told Deep Blues author Robert Palmer that Johnny Winter had done remarkable work in reproducing the sound and atmosphere of Waters's vintage Chess Records recordings of the 1950s. The albums gave Muddy Waters the highest profile and greatest financial successes of his life.
Since his time with Waters, Johnny Winter has recorded several Grammy-nominated blues albums and continues to tour extensively.
In 1980, Winter was on the cover of the first issue of Guitar World and in 1988, he was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and in 2003, Johnny was ranked 63rd in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
Throughout his career, Johnny Winter has been dogged by bootleg recordings and unauthorized re-releases of singles from his early pre-Columbia Records days. According to one biographer, only about fifteen percent of Winter's commercially-available recordings are legitimate, leaving 85 percent that he had no control over. Some of the releases were doctored with later overdubs by other musicians. Royalties were not Winter's primary concern, "I just don't want that bullshit out ... It's just bad music."
Johnny was once quoted by saying, "I think the blues will always be around. People need it."
With a music career spanning six decades, eighteen (18) official album releases, various Grammy awards and his induction into the Blues Hall of Fame, Johnny Winter is, “Still Alive and Well”.
Johnny Winter, once the fastest blues guitarist around, has been eligible for social security for a half decade or more, yet his fingers remain as youthful as someone half his age.
Winter tore down the house at New Haven’s Toad’s Place on a recent Friday night, a modest bar and dance club surrounded by the dormitories of Yale University.
“I was pretty impressed,” said Bob Machaud of Cromwell. “The last time I saw Johnny was 1970. He had more energy for this show than he did then. He may be getting older but he’s getting better. Johnny Winter Rockin’ the Blues Like No Other By Kirk Lang – February 13, 2013, American Blues Scene.
It's not often that one gets to experience a blues legend. There is no substitute for the real thing when it comes to the blues -- and Johnny Winter is most definitely one of the all time greats. My advice would be, get to the show when it rolls through your town, or you just might miss out on seeing one of the few true legends that are still with us today. Sena Ehrhadrt ... Roots music label Blind Pig Records has signed singer Sena Ehrhardt, one of the freshest and most dynamic young voices on the blues scene today. The buzz about the Minneapolis-area vocalist is poised to go nationwide as word is getting out about her incendiary performances at clubs and festivals across the upper Midwest, and people get a chance to hear her brilliant debut recording, Leave The Light On, which was released on August 16th 2011.
Ehrhardt was born and raised in a house of blues. Through years of playing music in clubs and juke joints, her guitarist father, Ed Ehrhardt, laid the groundwork for a love of blues that eventually lead to the formation of the Sena Ehrhardt Band. Sena has taken those influences and several years of experience to forge her own personal and intelligent take on the blues.
Though her band’s repertoire includes a wide range of blues, soul and funk cover tunes, Sena chose to record ten original compositions that she co-wrote with her father for "Leave The Light On." Ed Ehrhardt on guitar, bassist Steve Hansen and drummer Tim Hasler – performs flawlessly throughout, matching Sena’s drive and intensity.
For her second recording, Sena has teamed up with one the foremost producers in the worlds of rock and blues (Santana, Luther Allison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc.), multi-Grammy Award winner Jim Gaines. Sena describes working with Jim like this:
“I had the good fortune of recording this album at Bes- sie Blue Studios in Tennessee with Jim Gaines. The gifts of his experience, insights and vision were so inspiring. In the stripped back setting of a country home-turned studio, Jim made the music the star, and helped bring the best performances out of all the musicians on the album. There were no pretenses—it was just about the songs and the stories behind them. I feel honored to have worked with such a legend and gentleman.”
The result of their collaboration is a groove-rich, excit- ing exploration of the blues in all its moods. "All In" truly delivers on the promise of Leave The Light On and places Ehrhardt among the very best and most versatile of current blues vocalists.
Nominated for 2 awards at the 2012 Blues Blast Music Awards in the following categories:
New Artist Debut Release for Leave the Light On - Sean Costello Rising Star Award.

“… brassy, wrapped-around-her-finger inflections that will have the listener hanging on every word. Ehrhardt enchants with a hard-knock heart full of blues and unrepentant female soul.” Elmore Magazine
“Blues-rock with streaks of passionate rebelliousness” Downbeat Magazine
Sena is a very striking performer who has it all going on. She is a great vocalist who really knows how to put her all into a performance. She played a range of music styles that included Blues, Soul, R&B and some Jazz. She is a real knock-out and her father Ed Ehrhardt is a fantastic guitar player. Put this band on your must see list!” Bob Kieser – Blues Blast Magazine
Brandon Santini ... There are many different opinions as to what the future of the blues harmonica will be.
Memphis vocalist and harmonica player Brandon Santini is undeniably a worthy player to keep an eye on as the latest surge of young blues artists leave their footprint in blues history.
His name is worthy of conversations that include Jason Ricci, Billy Gibson, Dennis Gruenling, Rick Estrin and other frontline harmonica players by combining his love and respect for traditional blues with a present, colorful style of playing that is often compared to James Cotton or Paul Butterfield.
Raised in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, Brandon purchased his first harmonica in 1997 at the age of fifteen when his mother took him to the local music store upon his request. He founded the Blues Music Award nominated band Delta Highway in 2003 and relocated to Memphis where he absorbed the sounds and culture of the Delta and North Mississippi Hill Country, honing his craft night after night, sweating it out in local Beale Street clubs just like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King did decades before him.
Brandon Santini has been nominated for The Sean Costello Rising Star Award in the 2013 Blues Blast Magazine Awards.

Brandon Santini displays the harp ability of a Hummel, the soul of a Salgado, and the pizzazz of a Piazza . The way I see it, that could all add up to several Blues Music Award nods "This Time Another Year".... oh, say 2014 to be exact. - Peter "Blewzzman" Lauro April 23, 2013

Deb and The Dynamics ... originated in 2003 when founder Debra Salyer decided to make South West Florida her home. Deb was touring the U.S. Europe and Japan with national blues artist Deborah Coleman from 2000 to 2004. In that time, she played bass on two of Blind Pig Records recordings, one of which was produced by the legendary Jim Ganes titled “Living on love” and the other a live album recorded at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in Chico California, “Soul Be It” . Debra was honored to share the stage with many great musicians: Etta James, Delbert McClinton, Warren Haynes, The Allman Brothers and Bo Diddley just to name a few. She learned what it took to put on a great performance.
When Deb created her own Rock and Blues band it grew to become South West Florida’s most popular local band, winning nine awards for Best Band in the surrounding and areas from 2006 to the present. One of these honors was to be chosen Florida Weekly’s “Best of The Best” in South West Florida in 2011.
Salyer sings and plays every song with conviction and soul. Make no mistake about it this band is a hard-driving powerhouse that is tasty, funky, musical and truly dynamic as they come.
They are at once sharp, loose and right on the money. Deb & The Dynamics play tunes from many genres ranging from blues, rock, soul, R&B, and now their own music. There is never a dull moment!
The Dynamics are no strangers to the big stage, either. In the last ten years they have wowed the crowds at the First and Seventh Annual Bonita Blues Festival, the South West Florida Blues Festival every year sense 2003, major functions at Bonita Beach’s Riverside Park , The Bonita Beach Center for The Arts, Alliance for the Arts just to name a few. The band is always called upon to bring an enthusiastic audience. (Thanks for showin’ up!)
Deb & the Dynamics have produced 5 CD’S thus far, with a mixture of covers and originals, but are really excited about their newest recording to be released in spring of 2014, which will consist of all original music: Deb and the Dynamics very own rock, blues, swing, “New Orleans” , with a tiny taste of Jazz.
Sit Back And Enjoy!
The Band’s line-up consists of Debra Salyer: bass/vocals, Dan Keady: guitar /vocals, Michael Baer: keyboard/vocals, Cory McClure: drums, Newt Cole: tenor sax/vocals, Don Hulgas: baritone sax/vocals.
Stringtown ... The Stringtown music project was born in March 2009. The idea was to write and perform music incorporating all the genres prevalent in the emerging Americana music scene.
At a Stringtown show you'll feel those strong and time honored traditions of blues, gospel, New Orleans, country & honky tonk all rolled into one Musical Gumbo. The idea was conceived by Rick & Danette Russell under the premise of "build it and they will come". And come they did.
Over the last three years the area's top musicians have contributed to Stringtown's legendary "packed house" Sunday shows at Miceli's in Matlacha. In the last year two of those very musicians joined the band. Kenny Cox, drummer and Nashville session man who toured with Steve Forbert not only adds his tasteful, song driven drumming but is an outstanding vocalist, guitarist and front man in his own right. In demand SW Florida guitarist Jeff Brunderman also a fine singer rounds out the group providing Stringtown with the strength & creativity to cover the gamut of styles required in their rootsy sound.
Rick Russell the bands front man describes their shows as a "revival without the religion". During the bands performances he switches between, piano, resonator guitar, mandolin, banjo & harmonica while singing many of the songs he's either written or has come to love over his 40 years as a musician.
Danette Russell, a classically trained musician lays down a solid and soulful groove on the upright and electric bass and also doubles on mandolin. Her backing vocals help round out the four part harmonies which are now becoming the bands trademark. One thing is for certain, Stringtown brings a great deal of energy and passion to their shows and the audience will experience a rich and eclectic journey thru America's past and present musical history.
In 2012 Stringtown played before an estimated audience of about 2000 people at the Bonita Springs Blues Festival. Sharing the bill with blues giants like Tinsley Ellis, Trampled Under Foot, Damon Fowler, Magic Slim & the Teardrops & many others..
The page turns once again in the evolution of the band known as Stringown, who will perform for thousands more at this year's 14th. Annual Southwest Florida Blues Festival. Festival organizers are confidant that anyone who comes out to hear this band will have the same reactions and comments as noted below. Without a doubt their performance will result in new fans and a good reason for everyone to get out and enjoy live music. This band is truly unique! Jerry Tolliver ~ Event OrganizerThey excel in Americana roots music and are multi-talented on many different instruments. They blend roots music with blues, jazz, gospel, and country to create a level of music that wraps you in its warm embraces and just makes you smile. To say that I was impressed would be a gross understatement. They play originals and cover some great songs like the Tom Waits penned Chocolate Jesus and of all things, Led Zeppelin. Yup, they took Rock and Roll and slowed it way down and put their own twist on it. Incredible!" Tim Richards ~ Blues Blast Magazine
"I now understand what the buzz has been about concerning this group" Charlie Boyer ~ Jazz and Blues Florida
Stringtown is one of our most popular bands. They are a pleasure to work with from a business standpoint as well as great entertainers! It's hard to find a band, that weekly can draw an ever growing crowd but Stringtown is definitely that band. - Vinny Miceli ~ Owner Miceli's
Belmont and Jones
with One String Mitchell ... "Belmont and Jones play blues, and they sit down to do it. Some of these blues were first sung a century ago, and some of them were born last week. Some blues as deep as the dreamt memory of a flood and some as koo-koo as a boar hog strolling upright through a chandelier store. Listen close and you’ll hear the best guitar duo this side of Geechie and Elvie or Minnie and Joe. Belmont and Jones play blues, and they will not let your hambone spoil." -- Walker Paramore
"Belmont and Jones, in my opinion, is the best traditional, downhome, country blues duo performing today. With every lick on his guitar, you can tell that Belmont has blues in his bones. Jones has one of the most beautiful blues voices I have ever heard. And listening to the two of them together is a unique blues experience that will move any blues lover." -- George Mitchell (musician, producer, author and historian)
